Dany isn't a "white saviour" as we understand them in our world.

It's hard to explain so I'll leave it at this for now:

She's what a "white saviour" pictures themselves as, what they model themselves after, but she, herself, is not a "white saviour." The context needed for her to be a "white saviour" does not apply; it's debatable if it even really exists in ASOIAF.

A "white saviour" is someone who benefits from oppression, and wants a pat on the back for playing hero by "softening" that oppression for a day. The closest she gets to "white saviour" territory is actually in book 1 when she protects the women from Drogo's men. And even then, she had little agency to do anything further, was far more helpful than most "white saviours" could ever dream of, and most importantly, that's when she learns you can't hide behind small mercies in unjust systems; you need to ABOLISH the unjust systems.

If anything, her early arc is literally an anti "white saviour" arc. Because "white saviours" don't use their power to abolish unjust systems. The unjust systems are the SOURCE of their power, and they use their power to hide their complicity behind the very small mercies Dany knows to be insufficient.

Here’s the secret about D&D 5th Edition...

Honestly it’s not that great.

I’m not saying it’s bad - not at all!  It’s actually a very good system in a lot of ways.  But the thing it’s best at is being fairly simple for new players (while still having enough complexity to feel like a serious game) and so once you’ve played it for a while or you get to higher levels... well...

Look, I ran multiple 5e games, one of which went for 103 sessions.  I’m not a hater.  But I’ve played a LOT of other systems, so I know when something is not working properly.  Combat is BORING in D&D, unless the DM goes to great lengths to make it exciting.  You attack, or eldritch blast, or whatever.  Then you do that again.

I’m not an idiot, I know that’s not literally all that you do.  But it’s what the system encourages.  And that’s not how it has to be.  There are better systems.  Pathfinder 2e is amazing so far (I’m still learning it) if you’re okay with the rules being a little more crunchy.  FATE is a great system if you abhor the crunch.  Savage Worlds is a little in-between and has multiple settings.  There’s Blades in the Dark for a gritty heist kinda game.  There’s Monster of the Week if you want to have a simple game that still has some character growth.

5th edition is good to learn about what role playing games are, but I’m begging you to branch out.  Not just because of this OGL thing, (though that does mean WotC is losing a lot of 3rd party developers and let me tell you the official 5e adventures and source books are... not great) but because different systems are good for different things and different people and chances are there’s one out there that you’ll love SO MUCH MORE.

Tugged her along with him, until Lucien spilled backwards onto that wide bed he’d grown to hate, russet colors brightened by Nesta sliding close without pause. Her head on his pillow, her searing eyes close, Nesta let out a long breath.   “We,” she announced, nose brushing Lucien’s as he scooted closer, “Have a problem.”   Lucien had a problem- he’d never kissed her human mouth. Breathed in the scent of warm skin instead, under the sear of those heated grey eyes. “A problem that made you cross the wall in twenty minutes. Are you”-  “Five days,” Nesta interrupted, words hissed across his face.   Time stretched, Lucien stared. It wasn’t possible. Shouldn’t have been. Even operating under the undeniable truth that impossible things found Nesta like moth to flame, curses did not alter. Shift. The specificity required for that far a reach of magic was-   “Fucking ridiculous,” Nesta picked right up, like she could hear his very thoughts.

“He just what,” Lucien asked, nearly soundless.   Nesta curled forward, boots brushing his calves, moving into Lucien’s body until she was breathing against him, with him. “He was exactly the same. I’m not. He tried to- well, as it turns out, even at mortal strength, a knife through the eye is enough to kill an Illyrian.”   Horrible and wonderful and- Lucien laughed, the sound relief, brightening her face into those wicked lines he knew so well now.   “Bribed a kelpie to carry me over the wall,” Nesta admitted, flat teeth flashing in a distinctly inhuman way. “You’re going to have to help me with the rest of the body, Vanserra.”
